The picture was contributed by Dr. Anil Peethambaran, Former Professor and HOD, Government Medical College, Trivandrum. Being a good artist with creative skills, his contributions are remarkable milestones in the development of spine surgery in Kerala.
About the portrait:
Dr. Ralph Bingham Cloward (September 24, 1908 – November 13, 2000) was an American neurosurgeon. He was an iconic figure in the field of spinal surgery. He revolutionized the field of modern spine surgery with his pioneering contribution, innovative ideas, and lifelong dedication. He described the posterior lumbar interbody fusion along with anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. He engineered more than 100 instruments and was the first person to set up a bone bank in the United States. He deserves the title “Michelangelo of neurosurgery” for the great work done for neurosurgery.
The portrait was hand drawn by Dr. Anil Peethambaran using a stylus in a paint application in Windows 10.
